Have an Innovative Idea?  Apply to the Farm Innovation Program

The Farm Innovation Program is accepting applications for projects that increase the development, adaptation, assessment, and adoption of innovative on-farm technologies.

Producers can apply for funding for corn, soybean and/or wheat research projects through the Grain Farmers of Ontario by sending their proposal to awcoleman@gfo.ca by February 10, 2010.

Funding is available for:
  • Research projects that address industry needs and are intended to lead to the adoption of innovative on-farm technologies;
  • Demonstration of innovative on-farm technologies resulting from research and/or demonstration of innovative technologies from other jurisdictions under Ontario on-farm conditions; and
  • Projects that otherwise support the adoption of innovative on-farm technologies.
The Farm Innovation Program is funded through Growing Forward, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The Agricultural Adaptation Council assists in the delivery of Growing Forward programs in Ontario.

2010 Call by the Grain Farmers of Ontario for Corn, Soybean and Wheat Proposals for the Farm Innovation Program

January 14, 2010
To Corn, Soybean and Wheat Researchers
Due Date:  February 10, 2010

Grain Farmers of Ontario welcomes the submission of proposals for funding through the Farm Innovation Program (FIP) with a focus on corn, soybean and wheat research starting in the 2010 crop year. Proposals submitted to the Grain Farmers of Ontario must meet the FIP program guidelines and use the FIP application format. The project period under the FIP program is between April 1, 2010 and October 1, 2012.

Grain Farmers of Ontario, formerly Ontario Soybean Growers, Ontario Corn Producers' Association and the Ontario Wheat Producers' Marketing Board, represents 28,000 corn, soybean and wheat producers in the province of Ontario. The structure and goals of GFO focuses on four key areas: Research and Innovation; Wheat Marketing and Market Development; Production Information; and Public Outreach, Policy Development and Advocacy. GFO is governed by a board of directors representing 15 crop production regions across Ontario.

The Farm Innovation Program aims to increase the development, adaptation, assessment and adoption of on-farm innovative technologies that help respond to changing demands.  Approved projects will undertake research and innovation to increase awareness and access to credible, Ontario-based information on applicable innovative on-farm technologies in each sector.

Through the FIP program each crop received an allocation of funds. GFO is responsible for selecting and recommending projects for corn, soybean and wheat.

Researchers seeking funding in 2010 must submit proposals by the deadline of Wednesday, February 10, 2010. All proposals will be reviewed by the Grain Farmers of Ontario research committee, GFO Board of Directors and the Agricultural Adaptation Council Board of Directors. It is expected that researchers will be notified of GFO’s funding decisions by late March, 2010.

Please submit research proposals by email to awcoleman@gfo.ca using the attached FIP application form and budget templates. Only applications to the FIP program will be reviewed at this time. Please note that applications should not be sent directly to the Agricultural Adaptation Council, as they need to be reviewed by the Grain Farmers of Ontario before submission to AAC.
